I use a “lifestyle approach” to improve diabetes at any stage

Over years of tried-and-tested methods, I have devised a lifestyle plan coupled with support and guidance, for anyone with type 2 diabetes. I believe that type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease that needs to be treated with the right diet. I firmly believe that, “the best way to treat someone is to prevent the need for treatment in the first place.”

“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”

When I was in medical school, my father, who was in his mid-40s, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, most likely from a sudden heart attack. Even though he was a motivated person, he lacked the guidance needed to make the necessary lifestyle changes and unfortunately so did I, at that point in my medical training.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine once said, “Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”. After finishing medical school in India, I came to the United States to get a Master’s in Public Health Nutrition from the Gilling’s School for Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After finishing internal medicine residency, I went on to pursue a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, I received excellent training in becoming a prescriber and little to no training in lifestyle medicine .

Over the following 10 years in private practice as an endocrinologist, I realized how ineffective medications are in treating dietary diseases like type 2 diabetes. I started my own journey educating myself on all the different non-medication approaches by reading books, attending workshops and conferences. My medical training prepared me to evaluate information in a critical manner and I was able to pick out medically sound information. I also realized that there was “no one size fits all” approach and started combining the best parts of the different approaches. I started noticing what a transformational difference my lifestyle approach was making in patients, even those with advanced diabetes.

The one comment I kept hearing from patients was “I wish I had known about this earlier”. This is what led me to design my 7 step plan. I want is to help anyone, at any age, arrest, reverse and prevent virtually any lifestyle disease. I want to do for others what I was unable to do for my father.
